Terms of Use
Last updated: 26 October 2026
These terms apply to KDS Lab Desk, free open-source software for laboratory reporting, and to the website santoshray.in. By downloading, installing or using the software, or by using this website, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use them.
1. The software is free and open source
KDS Lab Desk is released under the MIT licence. You may use, copy, modify and share it, including in a business, as that licence allows. These terms do not take away any right the MIT licence gives you. If a term here conflicts with the licence on the software itself, the licence prevails.
2. No warranty
The software is provided "as is", without any warranty, as the MIT licence states. We do not promise that it is free of errors, that it will always be available, or that it suits a particular purpose.
3. Medical and legal responsibility stays with the laboratory
- The test names, units and normal ranges that come with the software are starting values. The laboratory's doctor must review them before use.
- The software's checks and warnings (for example out-of-range flags, critical-value warnings and duplicate-result checks) are aids. They do not replace the judgement of a qualified doctor or technician.
- The laboratory is responsible for the correctness of every report it issues, for obtaining any consent it needs from patients, for keeping patient data safe, and for following the laws and regulations that apply to it.
- Printed reports carry the line "Not valid for medico legal purpose. Use only for treatment." unless the laboratory changes it in Settings.
4. Backups are your responsibility
- The software offers automatic copies on the computer, copies to a pen drive, and an optional backup to your own Google Drive. You are responsible for checking that your backups are made and can be restored.
- The Google Drive backup is locked with a password you choose. We cannot recover it. If it is lost, those backups cannot be opened by anyone.
- We are not responsible for data lost through a computer failure, a lost password, a full or closed Google account, or any other reason.
5. Third-party services
Optional features use services we do not control: Google Drive, WhatsApp, Supabase and GitHub. Their own terms apply, and they may change or stop. The WhatsApp link in the software uses an unofficial library, and using it may breach WhatsApp's terms; the laboratory uses it at its own risk. The software's use of Google Drive is described in our Privacy Policy.
6. Names and logos
"K.D.S. Pathology", its logo and the name and photograph of Santosh Ray identify real people and businesses. They are not licensed for use by others. Put your own laboratory's name and logo in the software's Settings.
7. Acceptable use
Do not use the software or website to break the law, to harm others, or to create reports that you know are false. Do not present modified versions of the software as the original.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for any loss, damage, claim or cost (including loss of data, lost income, or harm resulting from a report) arising from the use of, or inability to use, the software or website. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. Support and services
The software is free. Setup, training, maintenance, support and custom development may be offered separately by Santosh Ray and his team under a written agreement. Those agreements apply to the paid work only and do not change the licence of the software.
10. This website
The website is provided for information. We try to keep it accurate but make no guarantee. Content on it, other than the open-source software, is © Santosh Ray.
11. Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the current version is always at this address, with its date. Continued use after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of India. Questions: rayskumar02@gmail.com.
